UN General Assembly Votes in Favor of Proclaiming a Decade of Action for Road Safety (2011-2020)

On March 2, the UN General Assembly passed a resolution proclaiming the next ten years, 2011 through 2020, a Decade of Action for Road Safety.  The resolution was introduced by the Government of the Russian Federation and was co-sponsored by numerous countries, demonstrating the support of the international community for the issue.  This historic resolution calls for a commitment to action by member countries with multi-sectoral collaboration, including civil society.  For more information, please read the WHO announcement about the resolution.

 
Bloomberg Names ASIRT a Partner in Major Initiative to Reduce Traffic Deaths and Injuries
New York Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg announced on November 19, 2009 that he will donate $125 million to six organizations—including ASIRT—to help reduce road traffic deaths and injuries globally.

ASIRT was chosen as one of Bloomberg’s Philanthropies' partners because of its successes as a leading advocacy group in road safety and work abroad, such as establishing a field office in Kenya, collaborating with U.S. embassies stateside, and committing to expand its operations more broadly.
